A radical new jet plane (The Skylon) fuels itself by breathing air. This air breathing jet plane can replace rockets and space shuttles at a fraction of the cost.
Instead of relying on fuel tanks that burn up in the atmosphere, it would take off like any other jet. And instead of launch preparation taking months, it could take days or even hours.
Allegedly, the U.S. Air Force plans to test related air-breathing designs later this year.
